Spring 2018: Writing With, For, and Alongside the Other: Doing the Work of Writing in Conversations on Race 

This course is designed to aid in your writing development so that you are prepared to succeed in future undergraduate courses as well as facilitating your growth as a communicator to succeed in life. We will learn more about communication in its various forms, from informal conversation and social media to academic research papers. We will also discuss the issues surrounding race and how to write about and engage in conversations that explore the relevance of race in our nation today.

Course Goals: By the end of the semester, you will be able to

  • Identify and incorporate successful strategies for argumentation.
  • Cultivate effective habits of organization and revision.
  • Discuss the ways in which our perspectives inform how we participate in conversations about race, identity, and politics.
  • Consider the importance of identity and ethos of the author.
