Summer 2017: Exploring the Origins of our national story

In this course, we will be reading a variety of texts from the early American literary period (prior to 1870) and we will discuss the ways in which these texts helped shape the American story and the American literary canon.

In the process of these readings, we will explore novels, short stories, poetry, journals of explorers, legends of native nations, and many other texts that have led the US to where we are now as a nation.
